In specific cases—particularly in cases of infectious tuberculosis —the public health department or the responsible funding agency may cover the costs of diagnostics, inpatient isolation, and outpatient treatment using public funds, or may advance these costs. The Infection Protection Act (IfSG) stipulates that public funds may be used for measures related to diagnostics, outpatient treatment, and isolation in order to protect the general public from the risk of infection.
