In specific cases—particularly in cases of infectious tuberculosis —the public health department may cover the costs of diagnosis, inpatient isolation, and outpatient treatment, or advance these costs. The Infection Protection Act (IfSG) provides that public funds may be used for measures related to diagnosis, treatment, and isolation in order to protect the general public from the risk of infection.
