Work package
Training and continuing education

Practice-oriented offerings
Successful treatment of tuberculosis requires more than medical knowledge. It needs an understanding of the diverse challenges that patients face during their long course of therapy. In the No1Lost project, practice-oriented training and continuing education offerings are being created for all actors in the healthcare system that place this social-medical dimension at the center.
The content will deliberately go beyond the medical perspective. The focus is on topics that are essential for holistic care, such as:
- Health equity: How can we create equal opportunities for successful TB treatment – regardless of origin or social situation?
- Social-medical analysis: Creating an understanding of complex life situations with and without a migration background. In doing so, we train the ability to recognize social, legal, and personal factors that can influence therapy.
- Language and cultural mediation: Developing skills for dealing with linguistic and cultural barriers in order to strengthen trust between doctors and patients.
During the project period, a curriculum will be developed that focuses on these and other aspects of social medicine. This module can be integrated into the training of medical professionals. Depending on need and availability, the No1Lost competence network will provide experienced lecturers who present social-medical content in training courses in which these therapy-relevant aspects are to be promoted. In line with network building, intensive cooperation with established institutions for training in the relevant areas of care is planned.
With this approach, we strengthen the social-medical competencies of those providing care in the healthcare system. The aim of this work package is to promote culturally sensitive and holistic care for people with tuberculosis in Germany in order to meet individual needs and prevent treatment discontinuation.
