Can technical devices for video-supported therapy (VST) be provided as medical aids?
April 27, 2026

Video-Supported Therapy (VST) can help people with tuberculosis take their medication, especially when Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) provided by public health authorities or local care services is not possible, or is not desired or reasonable for the patient. Technical devices (such as basic smartphones or tablets) must generally be available for this purpose, and no assistive devices are provided. However, VST or DOT is not considered a social medical aid. These technical or video-assisted support options are used to monitor medication intake in order to identify any issues with adherence. VST or DOT should be accompanied by social medical support.
