Revision of the "Tuberculosis in Adults" guideline submitted to the AWMF

The S2k guideline “Tuberculosis in Adults” is currently undergoing a comprehensive revision. The corresponding guideline project to update the recommendations has been officially submitted to the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF). Following its initial publication by the AWMF in 2017 and a revision in 2022, the content is now being updated once again to reflect the latest scientific findings.

Since tuberculosis is a rare disease in Germany, the day-to-day clinical experience of many healthcare providers is diminishing. At the same time, due to global developments and migration patterns, the disease remains an important differential diagnosis in clinical practice, which is why there is a continuing high demand for information on diagnosis and treatment.

Since the previous edition of * publications *, significant advancements have occurred, particularly in the field of microbiological diagnostics and in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis. These updated scientific findings are addressed in the new edition and contextualized for clinical practice in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The revision is being conducted methodologically at the S2k level (consensus-based) and is being facilitated by an independent moderator from the AWMF. With the participation of experts from all relevant medical societies, the current state of knowledge regarding diagnosis, treatment, and prevention is being compiled. The goal is to sustainably ensure a high scientific standard of care in clinical practice. The individual needs of people with tuberculosis will be the primary focus.
